About Waldgeist
Waldgeist (meaning "Forest Spirit" in German) is a project by Roxanne Karppi, a German artist, who was born in 1986 and has lived in Finland since 2016. She has been creating art for as long as she can remember. Her paintings draw inspiration from nature and the search for inner peace. In her art, she explores themes such as slow living, reconnecting with one’s roots, and healing past wounds. She aims for her works to convey peace, hope, and inspiration to viewers. In addition to painting, she creates mosaic art and tufted rugs. She became interested in mosaics in 2011 during a trip to Barcelona when she fell in love with Gaudí’s art at Park Güell. Upon returning home, she enrolled in mosaic courses, and since then, she has been working with this technique. Tufted rugs are her more recent passion—she discovered tufting in 2024 through videos and immediately knew she had to try it. After taking just one course, she was hooked. Now, alongside mosaics and paintings, she also creates colorful tufted rugs that bring joy to a space. For her, art is both an escape and a reflection of life. Whether she is painting, assembling mosaics, or tufting rugs, her goal remains the same: to create something that brings joy, peace, and a reminder of the importance of slowing down. Through her work, she hopes to help others connect with nature and find beauty in life’s small moments.
